Platelet rich plasma can be used for the treatment of shoulder pain in many cases. The shoulder joint, because of it's tremendous range of motion, is a little slower to heal than are other areas with less range of motion, but it will usually respond well to PRP treatment in the long run. The key to a successful treatment of the shoulder is to treat not only by injecting into the joint, but also into the supportive ligaments and tendons around the joint as well. After these structures have been injected, the arm should be placed in a sling for 48 hours continuously. After the first 48 hours are up, then the arm may be taken out of the sling if it is supported by an arm on a chair or desk, but if not, then the arm needs to remain in the sling anytime it is unsupported for 2 weeks. The shoulder will usually require about three treatments, and these treatments are typically performed at six to eight week intervals.
